"Being a host family has been rewarding experiences for my family. We have hosted four UWC students (from Tajikistan, Sierra Leone, Myanmar and Tanzania) in the past few years, and they were fantastic - polite, cheerful and driven. During their stay with us, we had the opportunity to learn about their countries and backgrounds. As much as they immersed into our culture, we found ourselves learning a lot from them too. Our two children (who were a few years younger than the UWC students) became friends with them instantly. The students spent significant amount of time studying, doing homework and writing university applications. We also found time to share valuable moments celebrating the winter season together. After these years, we still keep in touch with them, and it is always nice and touching to hear their updates. We truly treasure the life-long friendships with them." said host family Mrs Rita Kung.

What is this progamme about?

Over 60% of students attend Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong (LPCUWC) on scholarships, many do not have the financial means to return home over winter break. These students will need local families to help host them during this period.

What is UWC?

UWC (United World Colleges) is a global movement that makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.

What is needed from host families?

A clean bed, meals and an open mind!  It would be great too if you have some activities that the students can participate in. Be it getting to know more about Hong Kong through sightseeing, deeper understanding of the Chinese culture or just getting to know your family.

What is in it for me?

Being a host is the perfect way for your family and child(ren) to have a better understanding and respect for people from different socio-background and to practise the languages that they are learning such as English, French and Spanish.
